President’s Message: April 2022

Read Full eNews

Winter seems to want to hang on in our province, but I am optimistic that Spring will be arriving soon, and with it, the possibility of new beginnings. Fittingly, this season often coincides with many new opportunities for our members. The ACFP is only able to provide members with regular new initiatives and programs due to our Board and Committees behind the scenes. If you find yourself wanting to make a difference, join meaningful discussions, and contribute your perspective to ACFP activities, I encourage you to volunteer for one of our dynamic committees.

CALL FOR VOLUNTEERS

We are currently looking for passionate members to engage in member program and service development. There are currently multiple vacancies that available on the Committees for Summit Planning, Virtual Education, Membership Advisory, as well as Awards and Recognition. Each of these committees are vital to ACFP operations, and we truly appreciate all our members who volunteer to support them. Please visit the “Volunteer with the ACFP” page on our website to learn more about these committees and how your voice can be heard by volunteering on them.

AWARD NOMINATION EXTENSION

“Small seeds of gratitude will provide a harvest of hope.”

As the ground thaws this month, as you begin planting seeds in your garden or farm, consider planting a seed of gratitude for a colleague by nominating them for an ACFP Award. The deadline for nominations has been extended to May 1 to ensure everyone has a chance to celebrate the students, residents, peers, or clinics in their lives. We look forward to receiving your nominations in the coming weeks.

Wishing you an April full of inspiration, rejuvenation, and tranquility.

Sincerely,

Sudha Koppula BSc, MD, MClSc, CCFP, FCFP

My name is Smitha Yaltho and I feel privileged to work as a family physician. Why? I believe that being a family physician has been the best job any physician can hope to have. I have personally grown in my own abilities and skill-sets with diverse opportunities in ambulatory practice, acute care and work in Facility Living.  Working in primary care has been exciting and has also afforded me tremendous opportunities for growth while still remaining stimulating in its complexity.  I believe that Family physicians are trusted partners in patient care –  every step of the way.

Why are you volunteering to serve on this committee?
I currently have an interest in Physician Leadership and  trauma informed care.  I have served as a director with the Board of Directors with the Edmonton North PCN, Edmonton’s largest PCN. Thereafter, I have worked as the Director of Medical Services with CapitalCare (also based in Edmonton) for almost 6 years. It is my express wish that my contribution on the ACFP board of directors will highlight the excellence of family medicine that exists right here and now within the Alberta health care system.

What about the ACFP’s work do you find most valuable?
Ability to highlight and further support the excellence of primary care right here in Alberta.
