Call for Nominations – Announcement of New Committees

We are delighted to announce a bold renewal of our operational committees aimed at enhancing collaboration, efficiency, and collective impact. This will involve combining the following committees:

  • The Membership Advisory Committee (MAC) and the Awards and Recognition Committee (ARC)

  • The Continuing Professional Development Advisory Committee (CPDAC) and the Virtual Education Committee (VEC)

These newly formed committees will be known as the Members Engagement and Recognition Committee and the Education Committee respectively. This strategic move will broaden our scope while streamlining efforts in delivering effective communication, strengthening our recognition program, and advancing high-quality educational initiatives to our members.

What’s New:

  1. Purpose: Our newly restructured committees will have a more comprehensive purpose centered around member engagement, recognition, and effective communication.
  2. Broader Scope: Undertake a wider range of responsibilities to better serve the needs of our members and the community.
  3. New Name and TOR: Each committee will adopt a new name and updated Terms of Reference (TOR) to align with their enhanced roles and objectives.
  4. Adjusted Committee Terms: Committee terms will now follow a May 1st to April 30th date range, ensuring consistency and effective planning across all activities.
  5. Integrated Workflow: We are implementing a more integrated meeting schedule for working groups within each committee, promoting seamless collaboration and efficient decision-making.

Whether you’re interested in shaping member experiences, advancing educational excellence, or contributing to our membership’s recognition efforts, there’s a role for you to play in driving our shared vision forward. We invite you to join us and get involved to make a difference!

My name is Smitha Yaltho and I feel privileged to work as a family physician. Why? I believe that being a family physician has been the best job any physician can hope to have. I have personally grown in my own abilities and skill-sets with diverse opportunities in ambulatory practice, acute care and work in Facility Living.  Working in primary care has been exciting and has also afforded me tremendous opportunities for growth while still remaining stimulating in its complexity.  I believe that Family physicians are trusted partners in patient care –  every step of the way.

Why are you volunteering to serve on this committee?
I currently have an interest in Physician Leadership and  trauma informed care.  I have served as a director with the Board of Directors with the Edmonton North PCN, Edmonton’s largest PCN. Thereafter, I have worked as the Director of Medical Services with CapitalCare (also based in Edmonton) for almost 6 years. It is my express wish that my contribution on the ACFP board of directors will highlight the excellence of family medicine that exists right here and now within the Alberta health care system.

What about the ACFP’s work do you find most valuable?
Ability to highlight and further support the excellence of primary care right here in Alberta.
