What’s Up Doc? – Research Showcase

Friday, March 4, 2016, 61st Annual Scientific Assembly

CALL FOR RESEARCH PRESENTATIONS AND POSTERS IS NOW CLOSED.

The ACFP is pleased to accept submissions that include varied research methodologies, including mixed methodWUD-top research and qualitative research.

There is no limit to the number of abstracts an author may submit; however the number of oral presentations may be limited by the Research Review Committee for each presenter. One official abstract form is required for each abstract.

All submissions will be peer reviewed by the Research Review Committee between December 3 and 21, 2015.

Abstracts will be evaluated and scored based on the following criteria:

  • Relevance and importance to family medicine
  • Relevance to primary care research and researchers
  • Innovation/originality

Clear, well-written description, well-defined objectives and appropriate learning methods/style
Should your submission be selected for display or presentation at the Research Showcase, you will be notified by email during the week of January 11, 2016. Please note that the Research Review Committee reserves the right to decide the presentation format for your submission

Among the accepted abstracts in each category (poster and presentation) several will be recognized and will receive the Reviewers’ Choice Awards.

The recipients of these awards will be announced and acknowledged at the What’s Up Doc? Research Showcase taking place on March 4, 2016 at the 61st ASA.

My name is Smitha Yaltho and I feel privileged to work as a family physician. Why? I believe that being a family physician has been the best job any physician can hope to have. I have personally grown in my own abilities and skill-sets with diverse opportunities in ambulatory practice, acute care and work in Facility Living.  Working in primary care has been exciting and has also afforded me tremendous opportunities for growth while still remaining stimulating in its complexity.  I believe that Family physicians are trusted partners in patient care –  every step of the way. 

Why are you volunteering to serve on this committee?
I currently have an interest in Physician Leadership and  trauma informed care.  I have served as a director with the Board of Directors with the Edmonton North PCN, Edmonton’s largest PCN. Thereafter, I have worked as the Director of Medical Services with CapitalCare (also based in Edmonton) for almost 6 years. It is my express wish that my contribution on the ACFP board of directors will highlight the excellence of family medicine that exists right here and now within the Alberta health care system. 

What about the ACFP’s work do you find most valuable?
Ability to highlight and further support the excellence of primary care right here in Alberta.
