This time of year is always exciting for the Early Careers realm, as new cohorts of residents and medical students join the fold. It is thrilling to see so many first year family medicine residents joining the CFPC and ACFP, and we look forward to working with our Resident Board Liaisons to support all of you however we can. We hope to see you at an event soon when you can fit them into that busy residency schedule!
The ACFP is also delighted to see so many new medical students this year. The ACFP’s first interaction with new students is often through the Incoming Medical Student Shadowing Program, and not only does it offer those new students an incredible opportunity for some early experience with family medicine, it also gives the ACFP a chance to connect with some of those new students! It has been wonderful to hear from the 73 student participants about your experience with the volunteer physicians at your Shadowing Placements. Thank you so much to everyone who participated, students and volunteer physicians alike.
The ACFP staff had the chance to chat with University of Calgary medical students at their Orientation in July after their classes had gotten underway and look forward to meeting University of Alberta students at the upcoming MSA Orientation. U of A students, be sure to stop by our booth and spin the wheel to win a prize!
The ACFP staff are looking forward to connecting with the first cohort of students at the new Northern Alberta Medical Program in Grande Prairie! The ACFP will be looking for additional ways to help support this unique experience, so if you have any suggestions for doing so, please do not hesitate to reach out.
