As a new academic year begins and the fall season unfolds, the ACFP is excited to resume its continuing professional development (CPD) programs, advocacy efforts, and member engagement opportunities. There is something for everyone; below are just some of the ways you can get connected with the ACFP Board, Committees, and each other:Ā Ā
Advancing Excellence ā Upcoming CPD Opportunities
Thanks to your feedback on the recent CPD Needs Assessment, the ACFP is working on some CPD and continuing medical education (CME) offerings to meet the needs of its members. Among these educational opportunities, there are a few returning favourites and a new offering including:
- The inaugural Family Medicine Innovation Forum, which brings together health leaders, creative thinkers, and trailblazers in family medicine and primary care to share their innovations, will take place on October 3rd to 4th.
- The Family Medicine Summit, which remains the ACFPās premier hybrid conference, will be held in March 2026 and will feature high-impact CPD designed to advance excellence in family practice.
- The PCN Pain Rounds for 2025-2026, which is presented by the Calgary and Area Primary Care Networks with the support of the ACFP, has officially launched.
Celebrating Our Community’s Achievements
This month, we are thrilled to announce and celebrate the recipients of the 2025 ACFP Awards. Congratulations to you all; your dedication to our profession and to the primary health care system is remarkable. I want to extend my appreciation to the members of the Member Engagement and Recognition Committee (MERC) for their thoughtful and diligent work in selecting this year’s award recipients. Their commitment to excellence and fairness throughout the adjudication process has not gone unnoticed; it ensures that we honour those who truly embody our values, and for that we are grateful.
A huge thank you to our members who took the time to nominate their peers, preceptors, and/or learners. Help us in honouring the ACFP Awards Class of 2025 by commenting, sharing, and liking our recipient features on our communication and social channels. Or, if youāre feeling inspired and would like to nominate someone for the 2026 ACFP Awards, please email acfpawards@acfp.ca.
Your Engagement Fuels Our Progress
Over the past few months, we have met and/or conversed with members on a variety of topics and greatly appreciate the feedback that we have received. Your input continually informs our strategic efforts and ensures we make actionable steps that support our members.
We value the time you take to message, call, and/or meet with us. Whether it be with me directly or a member of the ACFP Staff, please know that every effort is made to respond and address your questions. We are here for you.
While there are many challenges to our profession, your contributions to the work of the ACFP make a world of difference. Please consider volunteering with the ACFP Governance Advisory Committee or Finance and Audit Committee to support the Boardās governance initiatives.
As always, if you have any questions, ideas or suggestions, please email me at acfppres@acfp.ca.
Yours Sincerely,Ā
Melanie Hnatiuk, MD CCFP FCFP
