Dear ACFP Members,

Earlier this month, the ACFP co-presented the inaugural Family Medicine Innovation Forum (FMIF) with the Alberta Medical Association – Accelerating Change Transformation Team at the Mayfield Dinner Theatre in Edmonton. I am immensely proud to share its success, showcasing 12 compelling innovations that seek to improve and transform patient care. For those who couldn’t join us on the day, check out this highlight reel.

Post-FMIF Reflections

Having had the opportunity to co-chair the FMIF Scientific Planning Committee, I was amazed at the breadth and the diversity of innovations being developed within our own backyard. We received a total of 39 pitches and shortlisted a dozen innovations for onstage presentations. From pioneering innovations to thought-provoking research concepts, each pitch was a powerful testament to the creativity, dedication, and passion of family physicians as well as the primary health care community at large. The energy, unbridled enthusiasm, and engagement of all who attended was awe-inspiring. So much so that we want to share them with all of you. Over the next few months, we will be featuring a few of the FMIF standouts, including the recipients of the Judges’ Choice Award and the People’s Choice Awards, on our website and in our monthly newsletters. Although this was the ACFP’s first foray in the innovation space, it certainly won’t be our last. We plan to carry this momentum forward and incorporate our learnings into fostering a community of family medicine and primary care innovators and improving programming year after year. Thank you again to all the participants, partners, and ACFP staff who made the forum a memorable event!

With this year’s Family Medicine Forum (FMF) just around the corner, I want to mention a few ways you can connect with the ACFP during the conference:

  • Alberta House Reception | November 5: Co-hosted by the ACFP, the University of Alberta, and the University of Calgary, the Alberta House Reception is a great opportunity to connect with fellow Alberta-based FMF attendees. Register today to be part of this member engagement opportunity.
  • College Square | November 5-7: Swing by the ACFP booth to learn more about our programs and member opportunities, or to simply say hello.

As always, I welcome your feedback on how we can better respond to your needs and reflect your interests in the work that we do.

If you have any questions or concerns, please email me at acfppres@acfp.ca.

Yours Sincerely,Ā

Melanie Hnatiuk, MD CCFP FCFP
