This past week, we celebrated World Family Doctor Day (WFDD), an annual occasion for us to celebrate our contributions as a community of family medicine physicians. For more than 10 years, the ACFP has collected hundreds of heartwarming stories of gratitude from Albertans who share how their family doctors have positively impacted their health and well-being. Year after year, these stories continue to flood in as part of the ACFPās signature public awareness campaignāāFamily Docs Rock!ā; underscoring the value of family medicine and the unique relationship we as family physicians have with our patients.
While World Family Doctor Day occurs one day each year, the ACFPās advocacy efforts aim to celebrate and promote the value of family physicians all year long. You can still view the WFDD campaign and get a dose of inspiration from our inspiring colleagues through the ACFPās YouTube channel.
On World Family Doctor Day and everyday, I want to thank you for everything you do to support your patients and the health system.
Executive Director Announcement
Now, to update you on our recruitment for the role of Executive Director, I am pleased to tell you that after a stringent recruitment process led by the Executive Director Selection Committee, we have found a remarkable person to take on the role.
On behalf of the ACFP Board of Directors, I am very excited to announce that Ms. Georgina Altman has been named our new Executive Director. Ā
Georgina has over 20 years of senior leadership experience in non-profit management, health care philanthropy, strategic planning, and stakeholder engagement.
Georgina has begun her tenure at the ACFP this past week, allowing key transitional planning and onboarding with the current Executive Director, Terri Potter, before her last day on May 30th.
I would like to thank the members of the Executive Director Selection Committee for ensuring a successful recruitment process that aligned our ideal candidateās experience, skills, and personality with the ACFPās distinct organizational culture, nature of the job, and its requirements.
Please join me in welcoming Georgina to the ACFP. I am looking forward to working closely with her in our next government relations and advocacy initiatives and key projects in the months ahead.
A Farewell to a Great Leader
For 14 years, Terri Potter has served as the ACFP Executive Director with visionary leadership,Ā passion, and commitment for what and for whom the organization stands for. Her amazing work ethic, trailblazing spirit, and her ability to forge and nurture strong relationships have enabled the organization to break new grounds in continuing professional development delivery and advocacy, among many others. Terri has been our strong ally, always representing family doctors in all the tables she sat at. I have been fortunate enough to work alongside her on the Board for the past few years and she is not only a Ā force to reckon with, but a friend as well. While we will miss her constant presence and support for the Board, all of us at the ACFP wish Terri all the best as she starts a new beginning. Ā
