With over 6,000 current members, the ACFP continues to be a robust organization, staying steadfast in our commitment to our evolving primary health care system. As the president of the ACFP for the past two years, I have had the pleasure of working alongside fellow members, staff (headed by Executive Director Terri Potter), and other partners on initiatives that advance excellence in family practice and emphasize the value of family physicians.
I would like to emphasize a few of these initiatives:
- Our recommendations regarding Modernizing Alberta’s Primary Health Care System (MAPS) and its implementation process reiterated that Albertans have access to a family physician working with a primary health care team.
- The successful launch of the inaugural Team Primary Care Alberta Forum in partnership with the Coalition for Primary Health Care set the precedent for how primary care teams can come together to learn from each other and to foster dialogue and effective collaboration.
- Our contribution to the discussions on reducing the administrative burden on family physicians, alongside the new Primary Care Physician Compensation Model (PCPCM) negotiated by the Alberta Medical Association (AMA), should improve the landscape for family physicians and hopefully keep more of our members in full scope family practice.
These are just a few highlights from my term as president. To hear more highlights and to witness the installation of our incoming president, Dr. Melanie Hnatiuk, join us in person or virtually for the 2025 Annual Meeting of Members (AMM) on Saturday, March 8th, from 3:45 p.m.-5:00 p.m. (MST) at the 70th Family Medicine Summit (Summit) in Banff. Make your vote count on motions that are relevant to our membership.
Please confirm your attendance through this RSVP link on or before March 8th. You can also visit the ACFP webpage for the AMM meeting materials.
I am grateful to you for your trust and support and hope to see you at the AMM!
Sincerely,
Noel DaCunha, MBBS, CCFP
