The Future of Medical Education in Canada Continuing Professional Development (FMEC-CPD) report recently called for the adoption of new CPD methods to support practice improvement and improve the health of Canadians.
The Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (RCPSC), the College of Family Physicians of Canada (CFPC), as well as the provincial regulators are requiring physicians to incorporate into their practice the following activities: practice-driven quality improvement using objective data, personal development, and wellness.
What is My Lifelong Learning Plan (MyL3Plan)?
Developed by the Office of Lifelong Learning, MyL3Plan is a FREE online tool that promotes self-reflection to identify areas to advance your practice with an emphasis on developing a concrete plan for implementing practice changes. More information on how MyL3Plan supports Physician Practice Improvement (PPI) can be found here.
MyL3Plan can be used to meet and support the requirements for the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta’s PPI Program, and you can claim CME credits through both the RCPSC and the CFPC by completing the following cycles:
- Practice-driven quality improvement activity using objective data (CQI) cycle
- Personal Development (PD) cycle
- Standards of Practice quality improvement activity (SOP) cycle
The five step practice improvement cycles can be applied to any element of your profession, including education, research, administration, and clinical practice.
