We truly value and appreciate our members who have been sharing their time, expertise, and energy to advance family medicine at the ACFP. One exceptional, collaborative, and engaged member is Dr. Cian Hackett from Red Deer, Alberta, who is the new Chair of our Member Engagement and Recognition Committee (MERC).
Since graduating from the University of Alberta’s family medicine residency program in Red Deer, Cian has practised full scope rural family medicine in Rimbey, Alberta. He is also a clinical lecturer and a locum physician in various rural communities across the province.
Cian provides a unique rural perspective to the MERC, which was formed to ensure that the ACFP is meeting the needs of its diverse membership.
When he first joined the committee as member, Cian said, “I volunteered for this position because this committee allows me to recognize the achievements and dedication of my colleagues, the merits of whom never cease to awe. I am keen to promote excellence within family medicine and have a particular interest in diversity and equity.”
Before taking on the role of Chair, he generously contributed his insights as a member of the ACFP’s Awards and Recognition Committee (now restructured to MERC) and also served as a medical student representative to the ACFP Board of Directors.
