We are in awe of our members who inspire us with their time, energy, and dedication for the organization. This month, we are featuring Dr. Mark Ekpekurede, Member-at-Large of the First Five Years in Family Practice Committee (FFYFP).
Dr. Ekpekurede is a rural family physician providing comprehensive primary care in rural Alberta. He brings a strong commitment to collaborative care and has experience in emergency stabilization, physician mentorship, and supporting healthcare workforce integration. Mark has also taken on leadership roles in academic program coordination, mentored international medical graduates, and contributed to research focused on physician workforce transition and professional integration. He is passionate about strengthening rural health care, creating sustainable family medicine practice environments, and supporting physicians across Alberta.
“I am especially interested in advancing dialogue around rural practice sustainability, physician wellness, and the unique challenges faced during the first years of independent practice. I am eager to learn from colleagues across Alberta while contributing constructively to initiatives that strengthen early-career family medicine,” says Dr. Ekpekurede.
As part of the First Five Years in Family Practice Committee, Mark helps make sure early-career family physicians across Alberta feel supported and connected. Through his work on the committee, he also helps shine a light on ACFP’s programs, products, and services—so members in their first five years of practice can see ACFP as a place to learn, grow, and feel at home!
