Member Moment: Dr. Kathleen Moncrieff

We deeply appreciate our member volunteers whose dedication and passion are the driving force behind the positive changes we have made this year. One of them is Dr. Kathleen Moncrieff, Member-at-Large of the ACFP’s Finance and Audit Committee (FAC).

Born in Edmonton, Dr. Moncrieff lived in Grande Prairie and Bow Island in her early years. After living in the U.S. and Nova Scotia and having a short first career as an astronomer, Dr. Moncrieff returned to Alberta, but this time in Calgary, where she completed medical school and residency. She now stays in Calgary where she is a family physician at the Sunridge Family Medicine Teaching Centre.

As part of the FAC, Dr. Moncrieff provides assurance that a fully qualified external auditor conducts a competent financial audit annually and helps complete an annual review with recommendations for updates to policies related to the financial activities of the organization.

On why she is volunteering to serve on this committee, she says: “Our health care system is facing many challenges right now. I wanted to get involved with the ACFP to help support the work that the ACFP is doing to face these challenges.”

When asked about what she finds most valuable with the ACFP’s work, Dr. Moncrieff notes that “Patient-centred primary care is the foundation of our health care system, and the ACFP is one of Alberta’s strongest voices for family medicine.”
