Executive Director’s Message – May 2026

Dear ACFP Members,

As I reflect on my first year in this role, I am grateful for the opportunity to support and work alongside Alberta’s family physicians. During this time, I have seen firsthand the dedication, compassion, and unwavering commitment you bring to your patients and communities. It has been a privilege to witness the impact of your work across the province.

Celebrating Family Doctors

This week, we celebrated World Family Doctor Day (WFDD) across Alberta. Through the use of the ACFP’s platform, we proudly recognized your contributions and promoted the valuable role family physicians play in our health care system.

Ahead of this annual event, our team launched a coordinated communications effort to celebrate Alberta family physicians and reinforce the value of your work. This included:

All of which were centred around Family Docs Rock!the ACFP’s signature public awareness campaign.

From Fort McMurray to Pincher Creek and everywhere in between, Albertans have shared over 200 stories of gratitude for their family physicians through this initiative. In addition to collecting more appreciation posts, we were also pleased to receive support from multiple municipalities which declared “Family Doctor Day” in their respective communities.

At the heart of this work is a simple but important message: family physicians are foundational to the health and well-being of Albertans and provide most of the care delivered across our system.

From our team to you, thank you. We see your efforts, we value your voices, and we deeply appreciate all that you do.

ACFP Pin of Honour Reminder

As a token of our appreciation, I invite you to request your ACFP Pin of Honour if you have not already done so. Wear it proudly as a symbol of the important work you do and community you are proud of.

The Work Continues

Beyond World Family Doctor Day, the ACFP remains committed to advancing the role of family physicians throughout the year. I encourage you to visit the ACFP YouTube channel to hear stories shared by your colleagues and to see the strength of this community reflected in their experiences.

If you have not yet completed the Member Engagement Needs Assessment I encourage you to take a few minutes to do so. The deadline to complete the survey is Sunday, May 31st.

If you have any questions, concerns, or feedback, please reach out to georgina.altman@acfp.ca or acfppres@acfp.ca. We value hearing from our members. Your input helps shape our work, strengthen our advocacy, and ensure we are meeting member needs.

Thank you again for all you do. I hope you will stay engaged as we continue this work together.

Warm regards,

Georgina Altman, MBA
Executive Director
