Ensuring vaccines are accessible and available to all populations regardless of financial position is paramount to keeping Albertans safe.

The Alberta College of Family Physicians joins its cross-disciplinary colleagues in urging the government to re-evaluate its recent announcement on COVID-19 immunization program to ensure all Albertans have access to vaccines. Prevention is one of the core tenants of family medicine, and the evidence overwhelmingly shows that vaccination is one of our most effective and cost-effective preventative measures.

Family physicians want the best for their patients, said ACFP President, Dr. Melanie Hnatiuk. “Ensuring that vaccines are accessible and available to all populations regardless of their financial position is paramount to keeping Albertans safe.”

This government and Alberta’s health care workers share a common goal—having the best interests for a healthier Alberta. Let’s work together to find solutions that help remove barriers to that goal, not add them.
