I’m Dr. Cathy Scrimshaw and I am a comprehensive rural family doctor who recently retired from clinical work after 32 years. I am the medical lead for the ACFP’s Collaborative Mentorship Network for Chronic Pain and Addiction. I am lucky to live in southern Alberta at the foot of the Rocky Mountains and enjoy exploring this amazing corner of the world in the time of COVID!
I have an interest in management of substance use disorder and chronic pain. After 32 years in practice I recognize the enormous affect these chronic conditions have on patients, their families and communities. I want to ensure family docs and their teams are well equipped to help patients in the medical home and want to ensure there are appropriate supports in community both local, zonal, and provincially to care for these individuals with their complex care needs.
What I value most about the ACFP is the work we do in providing the best evidence and practice to support family doctors in caring for patients, their families and the community.
