April – Message from the President

Read April 2021 eNews

It is my pleasure to write my first of many President’s messages to you. On March 25, 2021, many of you joined us for our Annual Meeting of Members (AMM), during which Dr. Vishal Bhella, now our Past President, and the CFPC Leadership generously passed on the ACFP Presidency role to me for the next two years. I can’t thank Dr. Bhella enough for his leadership during his term as President, and it will be wonderful for him to continue with us now in his new role as ACFP Past President. Thank you Vishal for your many years of service to ACFP!

During the AMM and the ensuing Member Forum that I led, we discussed how we as Alberta family physicians, are feeling burnt out, or in your words, exhausted, for a number of reasons. We at the ACFP heard you clearly. We also heard about the significant demands on your time and the weight of uncertainty that has been abundant for over a year.

I am hoping for brighter days ahead, and I need to work with you in order to make those days happen sooner rather than later. In that spirit, I would like to hear from you at every opportunity. Here are the number of upcoming ways to get involved with your College and have your voice, and those of your colleagues, heard.

I can guarantee that our ACFP Committees not only do meaningful work, but also are well-supported by our talented ACFP staff, and they enjoy themselves too. So, please join us!

At any time, and for any reason, I would be happy to hear from you at acfppres@acfp.ca. This email account is monitored and responded to regularly.

I hope to have some conversations with you and hope to meet you in person someday soon too. That will be one of those brighter days that I am looking forward to.

Sudha Koppula, BSc, MD, MClSc, CCFP, FCFP
