A Season of Gratitude: Things we are thankful for

As 2025 comes to a close, so too this year’s First Five Years in Family Practice (FFYFP) Committee activities. Thank you for all of the support of the committee and its efforts, from reading and engaging with blog posts to attending and supporting the FFYFP webinar, to volunteering for events designed to support those new to practice. We hope you’ll take a few moments to reflect on all you’re grateful for this year, and in the spirit of the season of gratitude, wanted to share some of our own:

“I am grateful for a fantastic community of committed physicians and allied health colleagues in Alberta, who demonstrate resounding resiliency in a seemingly pressure cooker environment, and who not only bear witness to, but must endure ever increasing stressors in a precariously strained healthcare system.

“I am thankful for my colleagues at my clinic (old and new) and at the university. Work is so much better when done with great people!

“I’m grateful for the sheer number of work opportunities out there for family doctors. I feel extremely blessed, and don’t take for granted, that the job security, flexibility, autonomy, portability, and earning potential afforded to me as a 3rd year family doctor is what many professionals only attain decades into their careers, if at all.”

“I am grateful for my education that has afforded me the opportunities to knowledgeably care for my patients. I feel blessed to have worked with fabulous mentors and hope to pass some the knowledge to the next generation of family doctors.”

Happy holidays to you all, and the FFYFP Committee will be back in 2026!
