2025 Award Spotlight: Outstanding New Professionals

The ACFP’s Outstanding New Professional Award recognizes family physicians in their early careers whose leadership, innovation, initiative, and dedication to the family medicine specialty are exemplary. Congratulations to the ACFP’s 2025 honourees—Drs. Megan Findlay and Amanda Wang.

Dr. Megan Findlay, a rural family physician in Hinton, completed medical school at the University of Alberta and residency in Grande Prairie. She enjoys the variety of her practice, which includes clinic, hospital medicine, emergency, obstetrics, women’s health, and cancer care. She also has a passion for teaching and welcomes learners of all stages in her practice.

“I feel like I was always excited by the idea of continuity of care but the true depth of knowing my patients has been wonderful,” says Dr. Findlay on what surprises her most about being a family physician.

Dr. Amanda Wang has been practising in Calgary since graduating there in 2020. She says that one thing she loves about family medicine is its “flexibility – the ability to carve your own path, like a river winding through a landscape,” which rings true with how much she appreciates her mixed clinical work in urgent care, rural hospital setting, and with her locum work with the Calgary West Central Primary Care Network.

Dr. Wang is also involved in undergrad curricula development as well as teaching at the University of Calgary. Although based out of Calgary, she confesses that being born and raised in Edmonton makes her a forever Oilers fan. Dr. Wang also seizes every opportunity to show photos of her dog, Archie, to the joy of her patients and colleagues.
